Open House Sunday receives another Award

Northern Arizona Watercolor Society (NAWS) is the last show of the Spring Season. Friday night was the reception for the Spring Juried show.

John  Salminen was the juror for the show, a signature member of American Watercolor Society (AWS) and The National Watercolor Society (NWS) to mention just a few. John has won more than 200 awards in national and international exhibitions.

With these credentials, it was an honor to receive the Juror’s Award from Mr. Salminen. For me to be selected, the one painting out of the entire show as the Juror’s Choice, is the most important award of the show. It’s like being blessed by an established voice in the art field.

It was a good spring season for juried shows and awards. Time to get ready for the fall season – it will be a working summer for me.

BoldBrush Entry Time

Update: April was a busy show month with the Arizona Artist Guild Exhibition at the Scottsdale Bezalel Gallery; AAG also had a two week show at the Arizona Artist Alliance Gallery in Scottsdale. Sedona Area Guild of Artists (SAGA) had a two week Exhibition in connection with the kick-off fund raiser for the proposed Sedona Art Museum known as SAM.

The last show for the spring season will be the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society Spring Show which starts May 9th – two watercolors were juried into this show. Also, currently have two watercolors in the NAWS Sedona City Hall Exhibition.

One watercolor was juried into the Arizona Watercolor Association (AWA) April Spring Show. June 5th  - pick up work, currently showing in the AAG two woman show, to close at the Beatitudes in Glendale  AZ.

So if I say, I've been thinking about paint this month, you will understand, “I've not painted during the month of April.” This has to change in order to have new work for the Fall Season starting in September.

NOW back to this Blog – posted today: Sunset on the Texas Plains

Having gone to college on the West Texas Plains, being able to see forever is an empowering experience. Sunset on a cloudy day is as close one can get to a religious experience. I enjoyed the challenge the sky presented. The intent was to create the feel of the Big Texas Sky over a very flat landscape.

Thanks for joining me on a windy day in Sedona. The wind today reminded me of the days walking across campus at Texas Tech; the wind seems to never stop blowing across the Texas Plains.

Happy Easter to All – Wishing You an Enjoyable Day with Family and Friends

It has been a busy month, needless to say not producing art; it is time for BoldBrush competition entry. Just entered a drawing of my Rocky Mountain Bighorn as a pen drawing. Page Link BoldBrush Paintings should be on about the 1st or 2nd row.

One of my favorite larger animal breeds is the Bighorn Sheep found in the United States, Canada and Mexico. This is a pen drawing of a Rocky Mountain Bighorn.

My focus was the strong design found in his horns which is the first characteristic one notices, if they have the opportunity to see a Bighorn in their mountainous terrain.

The blank and unfinished areas in this drawing are a creative use of Negative Space. Enjoy.

Here is the link to my FineArt America website for additional information on the magnificent animal.

Thanks for joining me on special spring day. The day and the weather were perfect in Sedona.

February Entry into BoldBrush Juried Competition.

Good evening all, as stated before about this monthly competition, I like to enter the last hour so my image will appear on the top row. Got busy and slipped up this month MST vs CST; ending up an hour late and a dollar short, as they say in Texas. Therefore, I am the very first entry for the February competition (missed the January entries – first time I’ve overlooked a deadline) which places me at the end of the very last row of what could be 600 to 800 entries – there about.  At least I'm easy to find in what will be a large group of artists by the end of February.

My February entry is “The Lookout Texas Green Jay. Enjoy this half sheet watercolor, 22x15. Happy first of February; where did January go.

The Painting Journey of the Texas Red Horse Trailer

Stage Nine:

See more details: small orange flowers across the bottom of the watercolor and roof support structure on the left side the roof – thin lines. Most often, “I paint what I see, not what I think it might be. Paint what is there.” This is how life and character is created be it an old barn or the individual personality in a dog portrait.

Yes, there are times to use artistic license. In this painting, the barn was pulled a little to the left so the pike of the top roof line would show to the left of the foreground post to add interest to the painting.

This painting is done. Would like to believe you learned at least one new element about art, my art, during the past nine stages of this painting.

Prints available in a selection of sizes at wholesale pricing
printed on Photo Rag or canvas.
