Happy New Year!

Christmas brought my daughter and granddaughter from California to Sedona. Here they enjoy taking pictures of the Red Rocks; a view of Cathedral Rock not seen from the classic points on Oak Creek.

Studies in Value

The title I have selected for my blog is Studies in Value. Value is the influence of light to create shadows. Or, in my artwork, look for areas of high contrast where light and dark are used to focus you on the center of interest, to give a sculptural feel to a 2 dimensional surface, create excitement or a mood.

Notan Design: a Japanese word refers to the lights and darks in a painting. The foundation of any painting; which draws your eye with impact. A successful painting has a strong balance of light and darks.
