Saturday trip to Phoenix for the AAG
Show
The Arizona Artists Guild (AAG) handled their Spring Juried Show differently this year. The artists hand delivered their work to Phoenix on Saturday morning; to be juried. Those not juried into the show came back Saturday afternoon to pick up their work. The wait was a great excuse for a leisurely lunch. Fortunately, all three of my pieces were selected for the exhibition.
The focus for this oil pastel painting was to
incorporate the black color of the surface into the hawk by highlighting the
feathers allowing the background provide the illusion of the shadows. I feel
his personality was captured.

The reference
photograph was provided by my neighbor Alan Stephenson from his motorcycle trip through Morocco
2000 miles to the Cape of South Africa. The painting became a different
approach for my style expressed in a simplistic design.
