Have a Happy Turkey Day from Mr. Country Strutter, my Turkey Watercolor!

I decided this Holiday Season, Mr. Country Strutter, my watercolor turkey, will represent my annual good wishes to ALL.

Above the noise, we as individuals have much to be thankful for: family, friends and the fact we exist to experience another day. With a positive attitude and awareness, we can effectively change our world for the better. Keep your personal focus on your life plan, the answers will be provided to you for this accomplishment. Believe you can create a better world for yourself and our children.

The challenge of this watercolor was to capture Mr. Strutter in his environment of grasses and local interesting plant material. The center of attention in his glory; he was painted with close attention given to his textures, colors and plumage. The feathers required a focus of detailed attention. I'm pleased with the painting and the juxtaposition between strong detail and a soft foreground and background. Enjoy.

A fall poem to share from Barb Wiatrak Young.

Just a reminder Barb and I went to high school together in Pasadena Texas. To give you a setting for this poem, she currently lives in Utah. These are seasonal thoughts she shares with us to enjoy and can ponder to move us into a higher peaceful state of mind. Please forward her words to share with friends and family. Enjoy.

Colors
by barb wiatrak young
All around like shimmering dubloons,
Aspens rain their leaves of gold...
Oaks on fire with crimson, scarlet...
Explode with color and unfold

Overhead the sky seems painted
In a periwinkle blue,
With clouds of cotton, fluffy white..
Shyly, softly peeking through...

Old man winters smile is kindly..
On autumns colors blazing hue..
For so soon his frosty paintbrush
Will with white those trees imbue...

For the fall gives forth to winter
Then winter flees on frosted wing,
Making way for purple violets
And the haunting song of spring...

I am so oft reminded as I ponder
How like the seasons are our years
Spring and summer, fall and winter
Through the trials, and smiles and tears...

It seems in spring, we have forever,
But summers chores seem never done
Hastily comes fall and retrospect
For the days so quickly run..

Winter is so very sudden
Lingering soft upon our brow..
Making days so much more precious
While we live the here and now...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Be grateful for your many forgotten blessings you've received during this past year.

A day to share with family and good friends.

(AWA) Arizona Watercolor Association Fall Saturday Pickup Time

Missed and email therefore another surprise when we went to Mesa to pickup the artwork. Yes, Santa Fe Cása won an award. Surprises are fun especially when you receive an award for an artist you respect his work.

The juror, Lian Quan Zhen came to the United States in 1985 from China and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992, followed by a master of Architecture from MIT in 1996.

Zhen has published three books with North Light and his fourth, on Chinese watercolor painting techniques, was released this fall. You can visit his website www.lianspainting.com to see examples of his work or watch short videos on YouTube. Enjoy his demo on his website.
