Granddaughter's Graduation Gift!

My granddaughter graduated from high school in June. Here is her gift to me, from her ceramic class, a 9.75” plate inspired by my watercolor “Chinese Dream Horse.” What a surprise and exceptional rendering, in ceramic glazes, of the vibrant colors in the painting. An impressive application of glaze colors, which look totally different before fired. This talented young artist is off to the university, majoring in Marine Biology. Thanks India for a “forever gift.”

“Chinese Dream Horse” was first designed in colored pencil before it was painted in watercolor. It’s one of those special paintings that slip off the end of the brush. The original painting is with a Santa Monica, CA Collector.

I’m so pleased India made the connected with this painting which took a great deal of time and enormous effort to create as a ceramic plate painting.

Needless to say I'm proud of my granddaughter as an International Baccalaureate Student plus I'm encouraging her to continue her interest in the arts at the university level. Feel it will be a good balance for her as a marine biologist. Good luck in your new ventures. Hugs

It's Summer Time Display change out at the MarketPlace Cafe

As a Marketplace Cafe participating artist, I appreciate the opportunity to have a showcase for my work where collectors can discover my voice, connect with my passion to select that special piece as an addition to their private art collection.

To Honor the Navy SEALs K9 Storm Intruders

Framed 28 x 24 Oil Pastel Painting

This dog portrait displayed, won 2nd place in its division at Sedona Arts Center Professional Members Juried Show, and represents the dog Cargo that cornered Osama Bin Laden. I have a strong identification with this painting. Just look into his eyes to see the strength of these animals as they defend and protect our country. Their dedication is to be honored. This was my best effort.

Blue Domes of Santorini Greek Island

My original 30x38” watercolor, “Blue Domes of Santorini,” took 1st place in the watercolor division at the Sedona Arts Center Professional Members’ Juried Show. Will be showing in the Scottsdale, Holland Gallery Arizona Watercolor Association Fall Juried Show; September 26 to October 29.

Dry Beaver Creek Sycamore

“Dry Braver Creek Sycamore,” framed Fine Art Watercolor Print on 12 x 18 stretched canvas, is one of my favorite watercolor painting. The original watercolor expresses the spirit of this very old sycamore tree living in a dry creek bed.

The artist reception is this Friday May 15th with the show to end on May 18th. We've been pleased with the show turnout so far this year. I sat the show on Saturday and talked with Sedona visitors from all over the United States. A time for enjoyable conversation and the opportunity to showcase the artwork of local artists. Most are surprised as to the quality and level of work juried into the show.

Working to catch up with my blog postings.

I've not entered the BoldBrush Competition lately. This, my 2nd month to post in 2015. In the past, I've always given you a link to the monthly artists competition feeling you would enjoy seeing exceptional artwork. My last posting in February had over 1600 artist's entries. Not sure how the juror can preview this many paintings and have the winners selected before the end of the month.

My intent is to share the opportunity to see and find artists whose work, style, subject, medium and websites, where you can see their selected body of work, which speaks to the joy of art in your life.

Because I just posted, my watercolor is at the end of the first rows. Cutoff time is mid-night Central Standard Time (San Antonio, TX).

I posted my watercolor just juried into the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society's Spring Show:

"Santa Fe Sunlit Patio"

22" X 30" full sheet watercolor

This watercolor is currently showcased on my website home page. Take a look see.

Here is your link to the April BoldBrush Competition.

Enjoy the experience. This will be more fun and work than walking into a retail gallery. Would like to see your mental washed with so much fine art you come away confused. This is a good thing. Take a deep breath. Go back the next day and do it again "Sam." Would love to hear your thoughts.

Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to ALL.

Have laughter, ease, grace and joy in your day.

New Juried Show in Phoenix

On this Easter weekend my Arizona Watercolor Association juried watercolor “The Outlook, Texas Green Jay” delivered to the Burton Barr Central Library second floor, 1221 N. Central Ave, for the annual AWA spring show in cooperation with the Phoenix Public Library. The show will be open from April 4 through May 2.  Show juror was Eric Wiegardt AWS-DF, NWS he has taught over 5,000 watercolorists his popular “Secrets of Painting Loose” workshops. Over 4,000 of his originals have been collected privately and corporately. If you’re in the Phoenix area, stop by the library to enjoy the show.

Watercolor 29 x 22”

It is always a great experience to be juried into the AWA shows in Phoenix. Currently I'm a juried Silver Signature member working close to becoming a Gold Signature member. This means I can now put an AWA after my signature on my paintings. That is if I remember to sign with the AWA.
